Ryzen 5 3500U vs Core i5-8250U benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 5 3500U is faster than the Core i5-8250U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8250U in all gaming tests too.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3500U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8250U. Also, the Ryzen 5 3500U has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3500U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8250U. Despite this, the Core i5-8250U has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 3500U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3500U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
