Ryzen 5 3500 vs Ryzen 5 5500 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 5500 performs better than the Ryzen 5 3500. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 3500 in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 5 5500 has more threads. Both the Ryzen 5 3500 and Ryzen 5 5500 have the same clock speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache and L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
