Ryzen 5 3450U vs Core i5-8400T specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400T is faster than the Ryzen 5 3450U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 3450U in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-8400T has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 3450U that has 4 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3450U has more threads than the Core i5-8400T. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3450U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8400T. Also, the Ryzen 5 3450U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 5 3450U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-8400T CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 5 3450U has more L2 cache than the Core i5-8400T. Despite this, the Core i5-8400T has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 3450U.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3450U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
