Ryzen 5 3400G vs Core i3-8100 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 3400G beats the Core i3-8100 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i3-8100 in all gaming tests too.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Ryzen 5 3400G has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3400G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i3-8100. Also, the Ryzen 5 3400G has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3400G has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 3400G.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3400G has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
