Ryzen 5 2600X vs Ryzen 9 7900X benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 7900X performs better than the Ryzen 5 2600X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 2600X in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 9 7900X has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 2600X that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 2600X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 2600X. Also, the Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 5 2600X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 9 7900X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7900X has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 5 2600X. The Ryzen 9 7900X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 2600X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
