Ryzen 5 2500U vs Core i3-1005G1 comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i3-1005G1 performs better than the Ryzen 5 2500U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 2500U in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 5 2500U has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Core i3-1005G1 that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i3-1005G1. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 2500U has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i3-1005G1. Also, the Ryzen 5 2500U has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 2500U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-1005G1. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 2500U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
