Ryzen 5 1600X vs Core i5-8600K specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8600K is faster than the Ryzen 5 1600X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 1600X in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 5 1600X has more threads. Both the Ryzen 5 1600X and Core i5-8600K have the same clock speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 1600X has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8600K. The Ryzen 5 1600X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 1600X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
