Ryzen 5 1400 vs Core i7-7700 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-7700 performs better than the Ryzen 5 1400. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 1400 in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-7700 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 1400. Also, the Core i7-7700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 1400 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-7700. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 1400 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
