Ryzen 3 5300U vs Core i7-5600U benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 3 5300U beats the Core i7-5600U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-5600U in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 3 5300U has significantly more cores than the Core i7-5600U. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 5300U has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core i7-5600U. It also has more threads than the Core i7-5600U. In terms of clock speed, the Ryzen 3 5300U and Core i7-5600U are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 5300U has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 5300U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-5600U. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 5300U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
