Ryzen 3 5300G vs Core i5-9400 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 3 5300G performs better than the Core i5-9400. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-9400 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 5300G has 4 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 5300G has more threads than the Core i5-9400. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 3 5300G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-9400. Also, the Ryzen 3 5300G has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 3 5300G has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-9400. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 5300G.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 5300G has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
