Ryzen 3 3200G vs Core i5-8400 benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400 is faster than the Ryzen 3 3200G. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 3200G in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8400 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 3200G has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 3200G. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3200G has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8400. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 3 3200G has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 3200G.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Ryzen 3 3200G has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
