Ryzen 3 3100 vs Xeon E5-2640 v3 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon E5-2640 v3 is faster than the Ryzen 3 3100. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 3100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2640 v3 has significantly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 3100 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 3100. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 3 3100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2640 v3. Also, the Ryzen 3 3100 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 3 3100 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2640 v3 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
