Ryzen 3 3100 vs Ryzen Threadripper 3970X benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X performs better than the Ryzen 3 3100. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 3100 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has significantly more cores with 32 cores compared to the Ryzen 3 3100 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 3100. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 3 3100. Also, the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 3 3100 CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 3970X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 3 3100. The Ryzen Threadripper 3970X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
