Ryzen 3 3100 vs Core i7-8700 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8700 performs better than the Ryzen 3 3100. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 3100 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-8700 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 3100 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 3100. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8700. Despite this, the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3100 has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8700. The Ryzen 3 3100 also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 3100 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
