Ryzen 3 2300U vs Core i7-9850HL benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-9850HL beats the Ryzen 3 2300U in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 2300U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i7-9850HL has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 3 2300U. Indeed, the Core i7-9850HL has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Ryzen 3 2300U. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 2300U. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 2300U has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-9850HL. Despite this, the Core i7-9850HL has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 3 2300U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-9850HL CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 2300U has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i7-9850HL. Despite this, the Core i7-9850HL has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 2300U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 3 2300U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
