Ryzen 3 2300U vs Core i3-8100 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i3-8100 performs better than the Ryzen 3 2300U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 2300U in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-8100 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 3 2300U. Also, the Core i3-8100 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 3 2300U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i3-8100 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 2300U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 2300U.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Ryzen 3 2300U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
