Ryzen 3 1300X vs Core i5-8400 comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400 is faster than the Ryzen 3 1300X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 1300X in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8400 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 3 1300X has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 1300X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 3 1300X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 1300X has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 1300X.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Ryzen 3 1300X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
