Ryzen 3 1200 vs Core i7-8700 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-8700 beats the Ryzen 3 1200 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 1200 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-8700 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Ryzen 3 1200 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 1200. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 3 1200. Also, the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 1200 has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8700. Despite this, the Core i7-8700 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 1200.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Ryzen 3 1200 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
