Ryzen 3 1200 vs Core i5-8400 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-8400 beats the Ryzen 3 1200 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 1200 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-8400 has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 3 1200. Indeed, the Core i5-8400 has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Ryzen 3 1200. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 1200. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 3 1200 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 3 1200 has more L2 cache than the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 1200.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Ryzen 3 1200 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
