Radeon Vega 8 vs GeForce GTX 970M comparison

For gaming, the GeForce GTX 970M graphics card is better than the Radeon Vega 8 in our tests.

The GeForce GTX 970M has a significantly higher core clock speed. This is the frequency at which the graphics core is running at. While not necessarily an indicator of overall performance, this metric can be useful when comparing two GPUs based on the same architecture. Despite this, the Radeon Vega 8 has a significantly higher boost clock speed. This is a frequency that can be reached if the GPU is cooled sufficiently and has enough power.

In addition, the Radeon Vega 8 has a significantly lower TDP at 45 W when compared to the GeForce GTX 970M at 75 W. TDP (Thermal Design Power) measures total heat output from the chip.

In terms of raw gaming performance in our GPU benchmark, the GeForce GTX 970M is better than the Radeon Vega 8.
