Radeon RX 6900 XT vs Radeon HD 7990 specs and performance
For gaming, the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card is better than the Radeon HD 7990 in our tests.
The Radeon RX 6900 XT has a significantly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation. In addition, the Radeon RX 6900 XT also has a significantly higher boost clock speed. This is a frequency that can be reached if the GPU is cooled sufficiently and has enough power.
Furthermore, the spec sheet for both these GPUs show that the Radeon RX 6900 XT has significantly more memory with 16 GiB of memory compared to 3 GiB. If you're planning at playing games at high resolutions with high-quality textures, you will need a lot of memory.
In addition, the Radeon RX 6900 XT has a slightly lower TDP at 300 W when compared to the Radeon HD 7990 at 375 W. Heat output doesn't match power consumption directly but, it's a good estimate.
According to the results of the hardwareDB benchmark utility, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is faster than the Radeon HD 7990.
