Radeon RX 5500 XT vs Radeon RX 7900 XT specs and performance
For gaming, the Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card is better than the Radeon RX 5500 XT in our tests.
The Radeon RX 7900 XT has a slightly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation. In addition, the Radeon RX 7900 XT also has a slightly higher boost clock speed. The boost clock speed is the frequency that the GPU core can reach if the temperature is low enough. The allows for higher performance in certain scenarios.
As stated by the manufacturer, the Radeon RX 7900 XT has significantly more memory with 20 GiB of memory compared to 8 GiB. Memory size doesn't directly affect performance, but too little memory will certainly degrade gaming performance.
In addition, the Radeon RX 5500 XT has a significantly lower TDP at 130 W when compared to the Radeon RX 7900 XT at 315 W. TDP (Thermal Design Power) measures total heat output from the chip.
In conclusion, all specs and GPU benchmarks considered, will recommend the Radeon RX 7900 XT over the Radeon RX 5500 XT.
