Radeon RX 480 vs Radeon RX 6900 XT benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Radeon RX 6900 XT beats the Radeon RX 480 in gaming performance.
The Radeon RX 6900 XT has a significantly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation. In addition, the Radeon RX 6900 XT also has a significantly higher boost clock speed: the maximum frequency the chip can reach if power delivery and thermals allow.
Next up, in terms of GPU memory, the Radeon RX 6900 XT has significantly more memory with 16 GiB of memory compared to 8 GiB. Lots of memory is good when playing at high resolutions or with many monitors.
In addition, the Radeon RX 480 has a significantly lower TDP at 150 W when compared to the Radeon RX 6900 XT at 300 W. TDP (Thermal Design Power) measures total heat output from the chip.
In terms of raw gaming performance in our GPU benchmark, the Radeon RX 6900 XT is better than the Radeon RX 480.
