Radeon RX 470 vs Radeon RX 5500 XT comparison

In our benchmarks, the Radeon RX 5500 XT beats the Radeon RX 470 in gaming performance.

The Radeon RX 5500 XT has a significantly higher core clock speed. This is the frequency at which the graphics core is running at. While not necessarily an indicator of overall performance, this metric can be useful when comparing two GPUs based on the same architecture. In addition, the Radeon RX 5500 XT also has a significantly higher boost clock speed. The boost clock speed is the frequency that the GPU core can reach if the temperature is low enough. The allows for higher performance in certain scenarios.

Next up, in terms of GPU memory, they both have the same amount of memory at 8 GiB. Memory size doesn't directly affect performance, but too little memory will certainly degrade gaming performance.

In addition, the Radeon RX 470 has a slightly lower TDP at 120 W when compared to the Radeon RX 5500 XT at 130 W. TDP (Thermal Design Power) measures total heat output from the chip.

In terms of raw gaming performance in our GPU benchmark, the Radeon RX 5500 XT is better than the Radeon RX 470.
