Radeon R9 280X vs Radeon HD 7990 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark, the Radeon HD 7990 GPU is faster than the Radeon R9 280X in gaming.
Our database shows that the Radeon HD 7990 has a slightly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation.
Furthermore, the spec sheet for both these GPUs show that they both have the same amount of memory at 3 GiB. Memory size doesn't directly affect performance, but too little memory will certainly degrade gaming performance.
In addition, the Radeon R9 280X has a significantly lower TDP at 250 W when compared to the Radeon HD 7990 at 375 W. Heat output doesn't match power consumption directly but, it's a good estimate.
In terms of raw gaming performance in our GPU benchmark, the Radeon HD 7990 is better than the Radeon R9 280X.
