Radeon R9 280X vs GeForce GTX 660 Ti benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Radeon R9 280X beats the GeForce GTX 660 Ti in gaming performance.
The GeForce GTX 660 Ti has a slightly higher core clock speed. This is the frequency at which the graphics core is running at. While not necessarily an indicator of overall performance, this metric can be useful when comparing two GPUs based on the same architecture. Despite this, the Radeon R9 280X has a slightly higher boost clock speed. The boost clock speed is the frequency that the GPU core can reach if the temperature is low enough. The allows for higher performance in certain scenarios.
Furthermore, the spec sheet for both these GPUs show that they both have the same amount of memory at 3 GiB. Memory size doesn't directly affect performance, but too little memory will certainly degrade gaming performance.
In addition, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti has a significantly lower TDP at 150 W when compared to the Radeon R9 280X at 250 W. TDP (Thermal Design Power) measures total heat output from the chip.
According to the results of the hardwareDB benchmark utility, the Radeon R9 280X is faster than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
