Radeon R5 240 vs Radeon R9 280 benchmarks

For gaming, the Radeon R9 280 graphics card is better than the Radeon R5 240 in our tests.

Our database shows that the Radeon R9 280 has a slightly higher core clock speed. This is the frequency at which the graphics core is running at. While not necessarily an indicator of overall performance, this metric can be useful when comparing two GPUs based on the same architecture.

Furthermore, the spec sheet for both these GPUs show that the Radeon R9 280 has significantly more memory with 3 GiB of memory compared to 2 GiB. Lots of memory is good when playing at high resolutions or with many monitors.

In addition, the Radeon R5 240 has a significantly lower TDP at 50 W when compared to the Radeon R9 280 at 250 W. This is not a measure of performance, but rather the amount of heat generated by the chip when running at its highest speed.

In conclusion, all specs and GPU benchmarks considered, will recommend the Radeon R9 280 over the Radeon R5 240.
