Radeon R5 240 vs Radeon HD 8490 benchmarks
For gaming, the Radeon R5 240 graphics card is better than the Radeon HD 8490 in our tests.
Our database shows that the Radeon HD 8490 has a slightly higher core clock speed. The core clock speed (or base speed) is the frequency at which the GPU core runs. This metric makes sense when comparing GPUs of a similar architecture or generation.
As stated by the manufacturer, the Radeon R5 240 has significantly more memory with 2 GiB of memory compared to 1 GiB. Lots of memory is good when playing at high resolutions or with many monitors.
In addition, the Radeon HD 8490 has a much lower TDP at 35 W when compared to the Radeon R5 240 at 50 W. This is not a measure of performance, but rather the amount of heat generated by the chip when running at its highest speed.
In conclusion, all specs and GPU benchmarks considered, will recommend the Radeon R5 240 over the Radeon HD 8490.
