Phenom II X4 980 vs Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 performs better than the Phenom II X4 980. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Phenom II X4 980 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Phenom II X4 980 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Phenom II X4 980. With our hardware info, we find that the Phenom II X4 980 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has significantly more L2 cache than the Phenom II X4 980. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Phenom II X4 980 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
