Phenom II X4 980 vs Celeron G6900 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Phenom II X4 980 beats the Celeron G6900 in overall performance. Despite this, the Celeron G6900 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Phenom II X4 980 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Celeron G6900 that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Celeron G6900. With our hardware info, we find that the Phenom II X4 980 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Celeron G6900. In terms of cache, the Celeron G6900 has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Phenom II X4 980. Despite this, the Phenom II X4 980 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Celeron G6900.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Phenom II X4 980 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
