Pentium Silver N5000 vs Core 2 Duo E8500 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Pentium Silver N5000 performs better than the Core 2 Duo E8500. Despite this, the Core 2 Duo E8500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Pentium Silver N5000 has significantly more cores than the Core 2 Duo E8500. Indeed, the Pentium Silver N5000 has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core 2 Duo E8500. It also has more threads than the Core 2 Duo E8500. With our hardware info, we find that the Core 2 Duo E8500 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Pentium Silver N5000. A Pentium Silver N5000 CPU outputs less heat than a Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Pentium Silver N5000 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
