Pentium Silver J5040 vs Athlon Silver 3050U benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Pentium Silver J5040 is faster than the Athlon Silver 3050U. Despite this, the Athlon Silver 3050U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Pentium Silver J5040 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Athlon Silver 3050U that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Athlon Silver 3050U. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Athlon Silver 3050U has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Pentium Silver J5040.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Pentium Silver J5040 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
