Pentium Gold G6400 vs FX-8120 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the FX-8120 beats the Pentium Gold G6400 in overall performance. Despite this, the Pentium Gold G6400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the FX-8120 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the Pentium Gold G6400 that has 2 cores. It also has more threads than the Pentium Gold G6400. With our hardware info, we find that the Pentium Gold G6400 has a slightly higher clock speed than the FX-8120. A Pentium Gold G6400 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8120 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8120 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Pentium Gold G6400. The FX-8120 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Pentium Gold G6400 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
