Pentium G4520 vs FX-870K specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the FX-870K beats the Pentium G4520 in overall performance. Despite this, the Pentium G4520 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the FX-870K has more threads. In terms of clock speed, the Pentium G4520 and FX-870K are identical in this regard. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-870K has significantly more L2 cache than the Pentium G4520

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Pentium G4520 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
