FX-8320 vs Core i7-8850H specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8850H performs better than the FX-8320. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-8320 in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i7-8850H has significantly more cores than the FX-8320. Indeed, the Core i7-8850H has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the FX-8320. It also has more threads than the FX-8320. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8320 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8850H. The Core i7-8850H outputs less heat than FX-8320 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-8320 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8850H. Despite this, the Core i7-8850H has significantly more L3 cache compared to the FX-8320.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the FX-8320 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
