FX-8150 vs Xeon E5-520 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the FX-8150 performs better than the Xeon E5-520. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-520 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the FX-8150 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8150 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-520. The Xeon E5-520 outputs less heat than FX-8150 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the FX-8150 has more L2 cache than the Xeon E5-520. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the FX-8150 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
