FX-8150 vs Xeon E3-1220 v5 comparison
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E3-1220 v5 performs better than the FX-8150. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-8150 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the FX-8150 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the FX-8150 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E3-1220 v5. Also, the FX-8150 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Xeon E3-1220 v5 outputs less heat than FX-8150 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8150 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Xeon E3-1220 v5. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the FX-8150 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
