FX-8120 vs Xeon E5-520 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the FX-8120 beats the Xeon E5-520 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-520 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the FX-8120 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the FX-8120 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-520. The Xeon E5-520 outputs less heat than FX-8120 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8120 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Xeon E5-520. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the FX-8120 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
