FX-8120 vs Core i7-4900MQ comparison

In our benchmarks, the FX-8120 beats the Core i7-4900MQ in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i7-4900MQ has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8120 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-4900MQ. The Core i7-4900MQ outputs less heat than FX-8120 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the FX-8120 has more L2 cache than the Core i7-4900MQ. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the FX-8120 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
