FX-4300 vs Xeon W3520 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Xeon W3520 beats the FX-4300 in overall performance. Despite this, the FX-4300 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon W3520 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the FX-4300 that has 2 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-4300 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon W3520. A FX-4300 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W3520 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-4300 has significantly more L2 cache than the Xeon W3520. Despite this, the Xeon W3520 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the FX-4300.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the FX-4300 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
