FX-4300 vs Athlon II X4 651 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Athlon II X4 651 is faster than the FX-4300. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-4300 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Athlon II X4 651 has significantly more cores with 4 cores compared to the FX-4300 that has 2 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the FX-4300 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Athlon II X4 651. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the FX-4300 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
