Core i9-7900X vs Core i7-12800H comparison

In our benchmarks, the Core i9-7900X beats the Core i7-12800H in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i7-12800H has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-12800H has slightly more cores with 14 cores whereas the Core i9-7900X has 10 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i9-7900X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-12800H. Despite this, the Core i7-12800H has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-12800H outputs less heat than Core i9-7900X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i9-7900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
