Core i9-12900T vs Xeon Gold 6230 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i9-12900T performs better than the Xeon Gold 6230. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon Gold 6230 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon Gold 6230 has slightly more cores with 20 cores compared to the Core i9-12900T that has 16 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i9-12900T. Our comparison shows that the Xeon Gold 6230 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i9-12900T. Despite this, the Core i9-12900T has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i9-12900T CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon Gold 6230 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Xeon Gold 6230 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i9-12900T. Despite this, the Core i9-12900T has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Xeon Gold 6230.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i9-12900T has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
