Core i9-12900KF vs Ryzen 9 7900X specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 7900X beats the Core i9-12900KF in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i9-12900KF has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i9-12900KF has slightly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 7900X has 12 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 7900X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i9-12900KF. Also, the Ryzen 9 7900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 7900X outputs less heat than Core i9-12900KF thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i9-12900KF has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
