Core i9-12900HK vs Ryzen Z1 Extreme specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i9-12900HK performs better than the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen Z1 Extreme in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i9-12900HK has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen Z1 Extreme has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i9-12900HK. Also, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme has a slightly higher turbo speed. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i9-12900HK. Despite this, the Core i9-12900HK has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i9-12900HK has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
