Core i9-11900K vs Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS beats the Core i9-11900K in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i9-11900K has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i9-11900K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS. Also, the Core i9-11900K has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS outputs less heat than Core i9-11900K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840HS has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i9-11900K. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i9-11900K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
