Core i7-9700F vs Core i7-4790 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-9700F performs better than the Core i7-4790. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-4790 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-9700F has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i7-4790 that has 4 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-9700F. Despite this, the Core i7-9700F has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-9700F CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-4790 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i7-9700F has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-4790. The Core i7-9700F also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i7-9700F has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
