Core i7-9700 vs Xeon E5-2690 v2 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-9700 performs better than the Xeon E5-2690 v2. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2690 v2 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2690 v2 has slightly more cores with 10 cores compared to the Core i7-9700 that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-9700. Both the Core i7-9700 and Xeon E5-2690 v2 have the same clock speed. Despite this, the Core i7-9700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-9700 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2690 v2 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i7-9700 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
