Core i7-9700 vs EPYC 74F3 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the EPYC 74F3 is faster than the Core i7-9700. Despite this, the Core i7-9700 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the EPYC 74F3 has slightly more cores with 9 cores whereas the Core i7-9700 has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-9700. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the EPYC 74F3 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-9700. A Core i7-9700 CPU outputs less heat than a EPYC 74F3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the EPYC 74F3 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-9700. The EPYC 74F3 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i7-9700 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
