Core i7-920 vs Xeon X5450 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-920 performs better than the Xeon X5450. Despite this, the Xeon X5450 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-920 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Xeon X5450 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-920. The Xeon X5450 outputs less heat than Core i7-920 thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Xeon X5450 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-920

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i7-920 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
